Changing the login/submit button..

Im looking to change the login/submit story button to another button or to just text. I tried moving the entire block of code from page.tpl a little bit down the document into a new div and now nothing shows up. But it does print out:

or the login href in my html document. I was hoping someone could help me out with either changing the images (and getting them to show up again) or how I would change that into text? Just so it says login when no one is logged and and submit a story when they are. Any help is appreciated.
