How to identify 404 or re-directing url's post subission?
Posted April 7th, 2008 by desi
Everything is working great except when I noticed that some of already submitted url's by users in my drigg site were actually re-directing to another site or were broken.
Is there a way or module to identify and catch 404 and re-directing, broken url's?
Not enough information
Hi,
Please clarify the issue.
I ordered a crystal ball from Amazon, but it hasn't arrived yet--and there's no estimate time to be seen :-D
Please give a practical example of what is going on, and what could be causing it.
Bye,
Merc.
Hope you get your crystbal
Hope you get your crystbal ball soon.
Well nothing is actually causing it but the actual links is either dead or re-directing to another site at a later date.
Example: One of the user had submitted www.xyz.com/mno.html which was actually a good link at the time of submission but after few days mno.html goes dead for some reason (maybe the server is down or page deleted).
I had tried to use the Link Checker Drupal module but it fails for some reason to identify re-directing url's. I was wondering if there is another way to identify such links and delete it for SEO. I'm sure it can be a great Feature in future Drupal releases.
Good luck for your crystal ball.
I mean future Drigg release.

Feature request
Hi,
I can see a lot of problems with this.
How do you declare a link "dead"? How many times shall it be checked? WHat about redirections?
I know it's not good to point to dead links, but isn't this just the nature of the beast, when talking about news lites?
Merc.
P.S.
I called Amazon, they cannot predict when my crystal ball is arriving :-D
