Site Relaunch Using Drigg

Hello Everyone!

I rebuilt my site from the ground up, threw away Pligg and moved to Drigg. Come see the Results.
www.ecoevolution.org/ and click the news link.

Sign up while you are there! EcoEvolution is your Voice on the Environment.
We have:
1. User Generated News (Powered by Drigg~thanks Merc et all!) Environmental news that YOU think is important

2. An Environmental Library- Wiki library of environmental encyclopedia articles and a space for Environmental DIY articles- for all those ecomodders and hackers

3. An Environmental Forum- Ask all those nagging questions that you want answered

4. A place to Organize online- Start a Green Quilters Club, Band of Eco-Ninjas, or any other Environmental Group you want and pool membership from around the country and the world.

This is my first website ever. I used merc's default drigg theme with some customization and modification and the FSdaily voting forms for the voting widgets. Everything else is pretty much Panels2. I am still learning Drupal and web design (I'm an Environmentalist not a coder), so things may be a little sketchy in parts, so if you see a problem, let me know and maybe I can fix it- otherwise feel free to compliment or criticize it ruthlessly!

Thanks Everyone!

nice one!

Hi,

Nice one! When you've been up for 3/4 months, and have gained some pagerank, please let me know and I will add you to the list of good sites that use Drigg!

WPscoop Social Wordpress News And Networking

We had previously been working with pligg which proved to be a massive mistake. Here is our new drigg based wordpress social news site. We still have to design a new look for the site and want to add some sparkle with JQuery but hey time is tight.

Your Light

Mine is http://www.youlight.co.uk which I have been building in my spare time. It has a PR2 but very little in the way of a community. I find it hard to convince people that it is free promotion for them! Maybe it's too complicated for some. It's a spiritual/natural health niche.

Any comments are very welcome.

designbump is great John - you've done well :)

Your Light

I am a nob! It should be http://www.yourlight.co.uk

Would appreciate any suggestions for usability or promotion :-)

Thanks

Thanks!

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I spend a lot of time on getting the site promoted and tweaking things here and there. I am actually in the process of doing a complete redesign. Almost 400 members and 1000 rss subscribers after 2.5 months and I realize the site loads way way too slow.

Best with your site (it wouldn't load when I tried, otherwise I would have given some feedback)!

Regards,

John

www.YeaWo.com - thats my website actually I'm posting it not so much because I really want to show my website but, because I want to know what I can / should change about it. As far as drigg is concerned so far I've enjoyed using it ... but as far as my own website is concerned I am thoroughly disappointed with it.. I'm at the point where I'm very close to throwing in the towel and calling it quits. The website is hardly going anywhere... I've been checking my Alexa rank and that's pretty pathetic... the google PR is 0/10 ..... the websites not at all active... and I don't know what I can do improve it. So, if any of you guys have any suggestions for me ... please let me know.

"Try harder"

Hi,

"work harder".
Study how to make a web site successful. Learn about SEO, web marketing, etc.

Work harder. Brick walls are there to test how badly you want something.

Fight. With a smile. And enjoying it.

Merc.

My site

It's been live for a ~2 months now. Had a pretty good userbase when it was first announced, it's currently stuck in a rut but still going alright.

The site is focused on Ultimate Frisbee content, so it's a niche site to say the least.

Dave could you please tell

Dave could you please tell me how to add a background behind left and right sidebars and the footer like you have on your site ? And also I want to add a google ad (468x60) in the region above Published Upcoming etc. (on your site you have "Become a fan of BananaCut on Facebook" there) could you tell me how to do this (I'm using blocks at present but that moves all the content down )

Thanks

I think your site looks great. I really like the color scheme as well. Congrats.

Just launched: DesignBump.com - Social news/media for designers

Posted this in a separate thread, but this appears to be the place to post our drigg sites, so here it is again:

Visit it at: http://www.designbump.com

Comments, feedback, and users all welcome!

After spending all the spare moments I could afford over the last few weeks I have finished my Drigg/Drupal site. And by finished I mean it is ready for beta introduction. There is still a lot I wish to add/tweak.

I plan to start promoting in the next few days but would love to hear back from the community first.

Merc,

Thanks again for all you have put into this. I plan on monetizing the site and (since I can't afford to contribute out of pocket) I will dedicate some advertising spots to you if you would like (either for advertising or for the profit I sell them for). I know it won't be much at first but hopefully in a couple of months or so it will be enough to help with Drigg's continued development.

Thanks again,

John C

Looks good! Question for

Looks good! Question for you. How did you do the "login/logout" in text? That might sound stupid but I havent been able to figure it out without using the default css background-image technique used with the drigg default install. Id much rather use text like you did. I posted this as a question on here but no one ever responded. :(

Login/Logout Text

All I did was create a new block zone at the top. Then I created two separate content blocks, visitors see one (submit a new link | login) and logged in users see the other (submit a new link | logout).

I linked the login text to http://www.desiginbump.com/user and the logout text to http://www.designbump.com/logout. That is all there is to it.

I believe in drigg this is rendered by the "print drigg_ui_submit_button();" call in the page.tpl.php file. So if you want to do what I did you would have to remove that and mess around with css to get it to fit into the drigg theme. (and if you do remove that you will need to create a new place to link to the submit action since that call controls that as well.)

Hope that helps.

Looks good. I wish I have your skill. :-)

Thanks

I appreciate that. I am self taught so I have to spend way too much time on the little things but I am obsessive so it gets done. Even if it is at the expense of whatever else I should be doing.

Personal Finance Buzz

I just launched yesterday and still trying to get it off the ground

PF Buzz - http://www.pfbuzz.com/

Social media/news portal for finance and money related articles.

I am also trying to customize the theme a little more so that it's not so Drigg-like.

Comments are welcomed.
