Several empty scoop listings after Pligg import
Hi. I just imported my Pligg site EntirelyOpenSource.com to Drigg using the importer script. Things seemed to have worked for the most part, but it seems like there are a bunch of empty scoops with no content listed on the site. I tried going through the content management section to delete these, but there are no blank scoops that appear in the administrator pages. Any ideas? I'm new to Drupal so it would help if you explain any suggestions.
You can see the problem at EntirelyOpenSource.com
On a side note, are there any security issues I should be aware of after installing Drupal/Drigg? Are there any install directories I should delete? I didn't see anything in the readme about this...
Thanks!
Ugh...
Hi,
Pligg's database structure is _horribly_ broken. And I mean _horribly_.
When I wrote the importer, I had to guess a _lot_. And, apparently, I guessed right most of the time.
I am afraid nobody but yourself will be able to help. You will need to see *precisely* what went wrong, what happened, etc.
My personal feeling is that you might have some invalid data in your Pligg database.
We aree currently experiencing yet another flood of users coming from Pligg. In August. You guys seem to be coming in waves!
And no, no specific security problems. I am about to release the latest version of Drigg-distr, so that it uses the latest Drupal, but even with this one it's all good.
Merc.
Pligg is having *more* major
Pligg is having *more* major security issues right now, and the main developer isn't exactly being honest about what's going on behind the scenes. Pligg site after Pligg site is getting mass spammed from one vulnerability and servers are being completely compromised from another vulnerability. That's why you're seeing a wave of people switching over right now. I'm still fairly new to Pligg, but I've been around long enough to know that this has happened before and will probably happen again.
With Drigg it's possible to simply change the template files and CSS, but with Pligg the template and site logic are so intertwined that my major-customization means I would have to make each security fix manually. Ugh. I'm cutting my losses now and switching to Drigg. It's not as feature rich yet (EVB button, nested categories, image upload) but I'd rather have something built on a strong framework, the rest will come in time.
Sorry for the rant, back to business. How long until you release the new version, should I just wait and reinstall?
No worries...
Hi,
Drigg is about to get backing from a professional Drupal consulting company. They will port it to D6 and help with important bug fixing.
YAY!
The EVB is something *I* should do. However, I am... well, sorto f on holiday right now :-D But, it will get done.
The nested categories thing IS coming! It was a _nightmare_ to code it. However, an angel wrote a patch and we are working on it to get it 10000% perfect (which won't be :-D )
Image upload is finally fixed. However, you will lose the ability to have the "first vote" automatically cast when a user submit a story.
I would wait for a new release. I will port drigg-distr to version 5.9 of Drupal, and will make a new Drigg release. It will happen within the next 7 days (maybe sooner). Unfortunately, the nested category thing won't be done just yet... but that's not far off either! (And in fact, I might HAVE to commit the multiple category patch before our sponsor starts the D6 port).
So... good news from Drigg. Drigg is structurally sound, and it's amazingly well coded. Please take time to have a look at the codee yourself. Even if you're not a programmer, it's mostly comments!
Eventually, in the next 6 months, a new maintainer will step in. However, I will be here to keep him honest and make sure that any change is structurally safe.
My goal is to have EVERY feature request implemented and EVERY bug fixed by the end of the year. Then, I will be a happy chap.
Thanks a lot,
Merc.
I haven't looked at much of
I haven't looked at much of the code outside of the template files, but I'm very happy with what I've had to mess with so far. I got Drigg into the template I had created for the Pligg installation without much trouble, I guess I'll wait for the new version before making any more changes.
I did end up deleting all of the stories that were imported by the Pligg Importer. Many of the drigg-node rows didn't have a Safe Category, but adding them didn't solve the issue of empty nodes being displayed. I deleted the drigg-nodes and all the stories went away, but there were still empty stories. Then I deleted all the nodes as well and that seemed to take care of the problem, unfortunately it meant starting from scratch.
Glad to hear that a new version is coming out soon, and it's good to know how active you are with this project. I'll be looking forward to the new release. Thanks again.
The new version IS out!
Hi,
OK, I did it. There is only so much I can procastinate...
It was a lot of work, because I reworked the script that creates drigg-distr.tgz.
It now also uses Drupal 5.9, which has more features and it's much faster. Yay!
Drigg's development is gaining attention. I have developers who are interested in adding features, and a company who is going to work on the D6 port (which is great).
Bye!
Merc.

That's some awesome news! Is there any information on upgrading from the last version of Drigg? Do we need to upgrade Drupal from 5.7 to 5.9 as well?
Thanks!
Open a new ticket :-D
Hi,
This is a question that is not related to the thread. Please start a new post, or _nobody_ will ever find it.
I will answer it there :-D
Bye!
